HMRC is kicking off a Real Time Information awareness campaign next month, writing to 1.4million employers to highlight what they need to do in preparation for RTI. With 6 months to go, companies need to actively focus on getting ready for the change. For your information, a list of accredited payroll providers is available on HMRC's website. It is important to ensure that both your payroll & Bacs software has been updated to cater for RTI well in advance of the deadline date.
Anticipated timescales remain on track with 250,000 organisations going live by March 2013 and the remaining organisations (up to 1.6million) legally required to submit RTI data as part of their normal payroll processing by April 2013. HMRC will advise when your business will need to make the move.
Gradually rolling out the pilot programme allows HMRC to iron out any challenges and teething problems. Therefore, the initial hand-holding required by HMRC will phase out over time, as issues are resolved and requirements are better communicated. However, help and support will still be offered via the HMRC website.
The HMRC website contains some detailed and useful information regarding the implementation of RTI, which they continue to update on a regular basis:
Alternatively, the Albany Software website is regularly updated with any new information.
Albany HMRC RTI Updates is an ongoing series about the new HMRC RTI initiative that is being implemented in the UK. As and when new information emerges, an update email will be mailed to those registered to receive them and a new blog posted on the Albany website.
